PT Quick is the internationally most common method to measure Prothrombin Time (PT), and is normally the assay of choice to monitor oral anticoagulat therapy. Moreover, PT Quick is used as a fundamental screening test for acquired or inherited bleeding disorders.

The PT is the method of choice for monitoring oral anticoagulant therapy and is a fundamental screening test for acquired or inherited bleeding disorders. During oral anti-coagulant therapy, the activity of vitamin K-dependant clotting factors (FII, FVII, FIX, FX, protein C and protein S) is reduced and PT time is increased thereby enable the quantitative determination of prothrombin activity.
MRX PT Quick is a highly sensitive diagnostic reagent intended for use in performing PT tests. MRX PT Quick reagent contains a source of rabbit tissue thromboplastin and calcium that specifically activate FVII in the extrinsic coagulation pathway. MRX PT Quick reagent is easy to reconstitute, calcium is already added to the reagent before lyophilisation. Calibration was performed against the most recent WHO thromboplastin standard, RBT/05, which is traceable to the first reference preparation of thromboplastins. The calibration assures low lot-to-lot variation and consequently results in reliable PT determination.
PT Quick results are expressed in either seconds, percent activity or international normalised ratio, INR. The international recommendations of reporting the PT time is INR and refers to the international sensitivity index (ISI) of thromboplastins. INR is calculated from the quotient between the coagulation time for sample and the coagulation time for a normal plasma (MNPT) raised to the method’s ISI-value (International Sensitivity Index).
